Have you ever wondered what makes for a truly excellent experience when you go mountain bike racing?
Sometimes it's difficult to figure out why you've had such a bangin' time at a race - all you know is that it was something you want to do again and again.
Well, we wondered the same thing about why the PBM HARDROCK 6HR MOUNTAIN CYCLE RACE is soooo much fun. Lucky for us (and for you) we were able to figure the TOP 6 REASONS WHY the PBM is the absolute balls.
1. The Vibe
MTB racing is fun, that's why we do it. But more importantly, it's about being with your tribe, hanging with your mates and with other people who love what you love.
There are some key ingredients that facilitate this - An awesome Event Centre, killer tunes, informative and funny commentary, and delicious food to fuel the madness. Guess what? The PBM has all this. And if you've been to a previous PBM, you know how rad it is.
2. The Course
The Kiwarrak MTB Park has 70km of primo trails, ranging from sedate beginner toddles to full-on enduro rollercoasters with jumps, berms, drops and rock gardens. So you'd think it'd be a cinch trying to stitch together the perfect 6 hour track each year.
It's quite the opposite - with so much awesomeness in one trail system, it takes our course designers a lot of time and effort to come up with the right course.
But somehow they've done it again. This year's track is the perfect mix of flow and tech, with just on 9kms of incredible single trail, featuring a unique 'Triple Hourglass' design.
There's also a healthy dose of 'A' and 'B' lines, including the recently rediscovered 'Cascade' which is a part of the trail known as ' The Whip'. The Cascade is not for the faint hearted, and forms the 'A' Line section of this part of the course. To ensure that noobs don't meet their fate down there, we've also changed the entry to this section with a filter, which we call 'The Filter'! This should sort the wheat from the chaff, and ensure that only the most skilled riders attempt The Cascade.
The course is marked with Tippies arrows from the Event Centre, so you should get yo-self to the trails and have a test run. Additionally, you can check out the course on Trailforks by clicking the following link: https://www.trailforks.com/route/2018-pbm-6hr-course/
3. The Prizes
Last year, our prize pool totalled nearly $16,000.00. This year we've gone next level with just on $20,000.00 value in cash and prizes to give away. This includes cool stuff in Schwag bags for everyone, a prize table for random prizes and plate draw at the end of the day, and cash & products for podium getters.
We also have two luxury weekends to give away this year. Both valued at $500.00, they are supplied by Partner Sponsors and preferred accomodation providers, Clarendon Forest Retreat and Mansfield On The Manning.
And last but definitely not least are our limited edition Tippies Beanies which we give to podium winners. These are rare and awesome. So train up and maybe you'll end up sporting one at the end of the race!
4. The Weekend
The PBM is more than just a race. Here's what's happening over the entire weekend:
FRIDAY 17TH AUGUST, 5:30pm: Tippies Raffles at CLUB WEST, Edinburgh Drive Taree. Come along and win a meat tray, have a beer and a meal with the Tippies, all the while supporting local organisations (profits from the raffles are donated back to the Manning-Great Lakes Tipriders MTB Club).
SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST:
2pm: Bourkes Bicycles guided rides: Join the guys and gals from Bourkes Bikes as they give you a guided ride of some of the other trails in the forest. Fancy a rip down the Enduro trails, or just a sedate ride with the rest of the family? Join us and have a blast, and it's also a chance for you to try out one of Specialized's 2019 Stumpjumpers or the brand new Epic Evo.
